Make Your Own Playdough

Kids love being creative.  Here's an easy and affordable way to have fun in the kitchen while letting the kiddos use their imagination.

Play Dough

In medium sauce pan:
Mix together:
1 C flour
1/2 C salt
1/4 C Vegetable Oil
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 Cup Water*  (The mixture should resemble pancake batter including the lumps.)

Cook on low to medium heat for about 15 minutes. Stir constantly until the dough forms a ball.

This is where it gets fun & messy. Spread newspaper or a silicone liner on the work area. Separate the dough into 4 plastic bowls. Let the kids choose the colors. Add as many or as little drops of dye to achieve desired color.

TIP: Use gloves to knead the food color into the dough.
When they are finished with the dough for the day, wrap in oiled plastic wrap or wax paper and store in zip top plastic bags or plastic bowls with lids. Monitor children while they play with this dough. Have a great time making this recipe and playing with it.
