WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE A NOSEBLEED.

A nosebleed can be caused by the inside of the nose being irritated by an environment that is too dry, picking and/or rubbing the nose. Blowing the nose too hard or injury to the nose can cause a nosebleed.

Steps to stop the nose bleeding:
1) Blow your nose to free any large clots.
2) Gently pinch the soft parts of the lower nose together (do not obstruct breathing) for 10 minutes.
3) If bleeding continues after 10 minutes, put some water-based jelly (K-Y) on a piece of gauze.
4) Put the gauze into the nostril.
5) Apply pressure for another 10 minutes. If it continues to bleed, call your doctor.
Prevention tips for nosebleeds:
1) Put K-Y on the inside of the nostrils 2 times a day.
2) Use a humidifier in your bedroom at night.
3) Put a few drops of warm water in each nostril before blowing your nose.
4) If allergies are irritating your nose, contact your physician for advice.
5) Avoid smoke.
