ARE YOU AT RISK FOR DIABETES?

You might be at risk for diabetes if you live a sedentary lifestyle, are over weight, and have a poor diet. If this sounds like you or someone you know, please keep reading.

It may sound too simple to be true, but get in shape by:

1) Increasing your level of physical activity.
Start with activities that you enjoy and find a friend who can travel on this lifestyle journey with you

2) Eat healthier. Try adding more veggies and fresh fruit to your diet. Add lean proteins to your diet; try replacing one unhealthy meal with a healthier one.

3) Decrease computer, watching television, and telephone time or change up the activity. If you are using the computer , play some music and dance for 5 minutes without stopping. While watching television, do some sit ups, jumping jacks, lunges, or other activities during the commercial break. Need to make a call, walk around your neighborhood while talking on your telephone.

4) Increase your water intake. Start your day with one glass of water. Decrease your sugary or sugar substitute drinks.

5) Defeat your sugar cravings with a stick of gum or a sweet piece of fruit.

6) For crunchy snacks, try celery stalks, carrots sticks, air popped popcorn, gluten free crackers, or crunchy apples.

7) Become a label reader. It's your best defense against sugar. Many packaged foods have "hidden sugars".
